Generally, your facial appeal depends upon the symmetry of your eyes, nose, and lips. Some people have a distinctively broad and flat nasal bridge. For this reason, nose reconstruction is considered the most common cosmetic surgery being done. Following a nose surgery, some discomforts will eventually fade after few weeks. These conditions do not necessarily project an alarming situation though. Below are some of the circumstances that can be expected after a nose repair:

1. Swelling

Swelling is the most common discomfort following a nose job. Especially when an open rhinoplasty is done, the swelling of the nose takes almost a week. This is a normal response of a healthy body to the surgical procedure. Surgeons usually prescribe an anti-inflammatory drug in low dosage as a post-operational drug to help ease the discomfort brought by this condition. Swelling usually subsides after two weeks for open rhinoplasty and less than two weeks for close rhinoplasty.

2. Bruising

Because the nose is a highly vascular area, it is not surprising that some bruises may appear after a nose job. Bruising is very common after an open rhinoplasty because such technique involves more manipulation. This unfavorable discoloration usually fades after three weeks. You may also temporarily use a concealer to make it unnoticeable but is recommended only after complete healing of surgical wounds. A prescribed medication is also given after rhinoplasty to reduce bruising.

3. Nasal Congestion

Nasal lining is very vulnerable to foreign factors, this include the changes being done during a nose job. As a consequence, the nasal mucosa can become irritated and might secrete excessive fluid. As a result, nasal congestion happens. This condition can also happen or be worsened when exposed to allergens such as dust or certain extreme odor. The use of decongestant nasal spray is recommended. It constricts the nasal lining which produces excessive production of nasal fluid. However, the use of a decongestant can cause drowsiness. It may be necessary to have bed rest when taking such medicine.

4. Difficulty in breathing

Reshaping of the nostrils may give some discomfort in your breathing pattern. You may find it unusual to breathe with narrower nostrils in the first few days after the surgery. This is just common; you will eventually get used of breathing normally in the succeeding days. Keep your head elevated when sleeping; this facilitates better breathing pattern and lung expansion. Do practice deep breathing exercises after nasal packing is removed, this will help hasten your recovery.

5. Scarring

Due to the incisions done during the procedure, scars can be evident in the nasal area. Blemishes and some markings may also be noticeable but will significantly reduce after seven days. You may opt to use topical scar treatment to hasten the reduction of scars but this is only advisable once all surgical wounds are completely healed.

Most of the above-mentioned conditions will vanish after three to six weeks. However, it should be noted that any excessive presentation of such symptoms might be a sign of underlying complication or infection. For instance, recurrent bleeding and bruises that do not disappear in more than six weeks might be an indication of poor wound healing. In such case, you should immediately seek for medical advice.
